For a whole week Mom kept trying to think of what material could be blue. She just couldn't think of anything that would be blue, that you could carve. School was becoming more and more troubling too. Her mind was totally wrapped up in trying to find out what Crystal was made of, that she couldn't focus in school. Normally her grades were great, but this was more important she felt. The kids at school were also picking on Crystal more, and more. Mr. Beechum had to come to school three times. The school felt that Crystal was causing a disruption in the classrooms. Mom felt soo bad. She wanted to help her. Every time she thought about going over and saying something the memory of Crystal smiling at her in Mr. Beechums basement came back into her mind. It wasn't creepy per say, but was strange to her. Crystal actually had a very sweet smile. She could tell that Crystal loved Mr. Beechum very much. Like a parent almost. Well, if he was her maker then he would be her dad. Mom just felt, every time she looked at Crystal, like she was looking at something very foreign. Mom just HAD to figure this out. On top of everything that was going on at school, Mom was having strange dreams. All she dreamed about was snow. All around her, snow. She even felt the cold from it on her. She would wake up cold too. Even though she was under her blankets. Mom just chalked it up to the fact it WAS cold. I mean it was close to Christmas.

One morning, on her way to school, one of the neighbors told mom to watch out for the ice on the sidewalks. She thanked them, and continued. As she passed a patch of it she smiled. It was pretty, and sparkled. It was reflecting the sky, and made such a lovely blue. Mom dwelled on this thought for a few feet. Then it hit her! Ice! Of all the things on the list, not one mentioned ice! And ice could be carved! She had seen it! Mom was so excited that she ran back home. Grandma was just about to leave. Mom came running up to her. "Mom! Mom! I figured it out!" Grandma told mom to calm down. "What are you going on about? Why aren't you going to school?" Mom told Grandma she was ready to tell her what happened. Grandma seeing how serious her daughter was decided that work wasn't important as this. After they went inside mom told grandma everything. "And now I've figured it out. Crystal is made of ice. Crystal is one of Mr. Beechums statues." Mom said. Grandma sat there for a few minutes. "I'm telling you the truth mom. The pictures, her mysteriously appearing, how odd she is.....It has to be the reason." Mom added. Grandma sighed. "Honey, I think Crystal is just a strange, and misunderstood child, with a wild imagination. Thats all. Not some strange ice child made by our neighbor, Mr. Beechum." Mom jumped up. "You don't believe me?" Grandma shook her head. "It's not that. I believe you got scared and came up with reasons to why Crystal acts so strange." She tried to reach out for moms hand. Mom pulled away from her. "No. You just don't believe me. You weren't there. You didn't see those pictures." Mom said. "She could have drawn those from her experience going with Mr. Beechum to pick up the ice. Did you think about that?" Grandma pointed out. "No! Crystal said that they were about how she was born. I'm telling the truth, and I'm going to prove it." Mom said. Then she went to her room. It was too late to go to school.
